The death toll of the massacre there has risen to 50, after police found another victim at one of the mosques. Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, has just held a press conference, saying that the bodies of those killed would begin to be released to families for burial. All bodies will be returned by Wednesday. She said the country’s cabinet will meet on Monday to discuss a policy response and a change to gun laws. She also confirmed that her office had received a “manifesto” from the gunman just before the attack. But she said it did not include a location or specific details. The UN Security Council adopted the resolution as one of the deadliest air assaults of the seven-year war pounded Eastern Ghouta. The Nanjing massacre has left people with memories of suffering, and pain that resists healing. Yu Changxiang is one of the survivors of the massacre and he tells us his story.
“On May 2nd, I received a call from the provincial Marrow Donor Program, informing me that the blood of a 15-year-old boy and mine have been successfully matched. From Sept. 9th to 11th, I had eight injections. My arms felt like they were turning into a hornet’s nest. But I’m pretty used to it and feel a little uncomfortable if there’s no injection waiting for me.”
Those are some of the contents in the diary written by the brave donor, Xu Aifei, a girl from east China’s Zhejiang Province. Xu said she was really surprised when she first received the phone call, because of the tiny probability of a perfect match.
US President Donald Trump held a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, in which Trump stressed that he believed Paris was one of the most beautiful cities in the world. But these warm and praising words stand in contrast to what he said in February earlier this year.
When delivering a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in February, Trump quoted who he said was a good friend of his named “Jim”, who the US media questions whether or not he even exists at all. But Trump said this “Jim” used to visit Paris every year but no longer does because of terrorism fears.
